Yay! You’re creating awesome content across different platforms and building a decent following. But why stop there? You want to get your videos in front of as many viewers as possible as quickly as possible, right? Our handy cheat sheet will give you a headstart on content visibility and promotion to guide you to the next level of success!
1. Make Sure Your YouTube Basics are up to Scratch
Take a look at your fundamentals and ensure you’ve ticked all the boxes for optimization like a keyword-rich title, an informative description, and a popping custom thumbnail. Make sure your channel has a stellar About Page with up-to-date contact information, and your channel art (banner, icon) is consistent and reflects the focus of your content.
These fundamental steps will help with content discovery on YouTube either via search or because YouTube may even recommend it! Make sure you use hashtags on TikTok and Instagram so potential viewers can find you.
2. Encourage Viewers to Subscribe and Share Your Content
This may be staggeringly obvious, but social media is perfect for getting the word out and allowing others to share the content to their feeds if you want to promote a video.
Every time you create and upload a video, let your target audience know it exists by publishing it via social media and encouraging them to watch, comment, like, and share.
3. Make the Right Content for the Right Platform
Long-form content can do really well on YouTube. However, in the age of Shorts and other quickly consumed content like TikTok, Stories, and Reels, that doesn’t mean that your target audience will have the time or even want to watch a video that’s going to eat into their day.
If the retention rate for your video content drops off dramatically at any point in the video, then use that info to determine the ideal length. Hit the right note with the right audience on the right video platform, and your content will promote itself!
4. Promote Your Content via a Community Forum
You may be a community forum member yourself, but have you ever considered promoting your video on them? There are many forums targeted toward YouTubers and other video creators, and if your post and content provide value, you’ll find a rich source of visibility. Just play by the rules. Remember, it’s not an advertising platform, so don’t spam or beg for subscribers as it can hurt your reputation.
5. Collaborate with Other Creators and Tap into Their Audience Reach
A tactic that many growing video creators use to grow their following is to collaborate with other creators. This strategy not only gives you exposure but also gives you exposure to a brand new audience! A bonus is those new viewers are more likely to subscribe to your channel since you’re working with a content creator they already know, like, and trust.
We’re as excited as you to see you grow as a creator. You’re creating fantastic content, so get out and promote it!
