Frequently Asked Questions

What does Channel Access do?

Channel Access allows third parties, like employees, freelancers, or clients, access to your TubeBuddy account.

Without Channel Access, you would need to share your personal Google account information, giving access to your TubeBuddy account and YouTube channel (and everything associated with your Google account).

This would impose a considerable security risk, as the third party could easily steal your data, change your videos, and anything else that puts your channel at risk.

Thanks to Channel Access, you can avoid this issue, making the whole process of delegating safer and easier for everyone involved.

Why do I need Channel Access?

Channel Access is ideal for YouTube creators hiring people to help them manage their marketing and operations.

Since TubeBuddy offers a suite of features for this purpose, Channel Access allows creators to let their employees or contracts access their TubeBuddy account without giving them a deep access or any personal information.

It also works for marketers and consultants who manage the channel for creators. In this case, the marketer could show their campaign's progress without having their client access their Google account.

Who should I give permission to access my TubeBuddy account to?

Generally speaking, you want to give access to whoever will use any of TubeBuddy's features, whether that's a contractor, freelancer, consultant, or employee. You also want to provide access to creators who hire you to run their marketing using TubeBuddy.

What does a third party need to do to access my TubeBuddy account?

To let other people use your TubeBuddy tools, they only need to create a free account, sign in, and click the invitation link in the email sent by Channel Access. Once they click the link, they'll be able to access your account hassle-free.

Does Channel Access give access only to my TubeBuddy account or also to my YouTube channel?

Channel Access only gives access to your TubeBuddy account, not your YouTube channel. If you want the latter, you need to do so using YouTube's channel permissions.

Is there any difference between giving channel access to business (brand) YouTube channels and personal (non-brand) ones?

Yes. If your channel is a branded business account, you only need to add the person's name and email. But if your channel is a non-branded personal account, you need to give them your "Authorized access URL," which Channel Access provides.

The third-party you send your URL to must install the TubeBuddy browser extension and use the authorized access URL to access the TubeBuddy account associated with your channel.
